Swiss Steak

Ingredients

  • 4 round steaks (tenderized)
  • ½ c flour
  • 1 package onion soup mix
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 T olive oil
  • 1 c water (+¼ c if necessary) – for steak
  • 1 box of fresh mushrooms
  • 1 can mushroom soup
  • ½ can of water
  • Directions

    1. Pre-heat oven to 325.
    2. Mix flour and onion soup mix as a dredge.
    3. Season steaks with salt and pepper as per your liking (typically doesn’t need much extra salt).
    4. Dredge steaks, coating very well.
    5. Place olive oil in a medium pan on medium high heat.
    6. Fry steaks, in batches, just until browned on each side.
    7. Place steaks in a 9-13 oven-safe baking dish.
    8. Add 1 cup of water.
    9. Bake, covered, for 2 ½ hours (add ¼ c more water at 1 ½ hours if dry).
    10. Remove from oven.
    11. Slice fresh mushrooms on top of steak.
    12. Pour mushroom soup and ½ can of water over mushrooms and steak.
    13. Bake for another ½ hour.
    14. Serve.
